Single again working Moms experience real challenges before they step out the door each morning.

Not only do they have to prepare themselves for work. They have the responsibility to make sure their children are bathed, fed and dressed.

They get to ensure homework is in the right folder, signed off and in the book bag. They get to oversee that the job of feeding the dog and taking him/her out before leaving is complete.

And of course, this is only the tip of the iceberg for single working moms. The morning rush can turn into a time that focus is lost, tempers flare and tongues fork.

Below are three things you can do the night before to prepare for busy mornings:

  • As soon as homework is complete the night before, review, sign and put it in the folder and book bag. Place book bags at door, ready to grab on the way out.
  • Measure your dog’s food the night before and have it ready to pour into the bowl. Do the same with water. While everyone is getting breakfast, either you or a responsible child take the dog out for a morning walk.
  • To lower stress, sing songs the kids love to sing in the mornings. Let them choose what it will be the night before and take turns. This will engage and empower your children. And they will be happier to do something that is their idea.

Of course, there will be those times when everything seems to go haywire, but keep in mind, it is only for a moment. Throw your head back and laugh at these times. They will be the ones you cherish and laugh about years later anyway!

What are some difficulties and solutions you’ve had as a single mom?

What works for you in the morning rush of preparing to hit the door for school and work?
